Flanders, the Belgian area from whence instrumental psych-sludge outfit Modder originates, is thought for chocolate, fries and beer. Which begs the query, why would anybody wish to reside wherever else on this planet? Regardless of theses benefits, Modder nonetheless appear ansgty, as evidenced by their new album title, Destroying Ourselves for a Place within the Solar, and the sonic stress that lies therein, the place behemoth crushing riffs are juxtaposed with bleep-bloop synth work and a cross-pollination between sludgy doom and head-spinning psychedelia. It’s like like having fun with a bitter Flanders crimson ale with bitter, darkish chocolate. Perhaps doesn’t seem to be a great pairing, nevertheless it’s fairly unbelievable.
Destroying Ourselves for a Place within the Solar was recorded (besides drums) by the band at Place of Residence Studios. Drums have been recorded by Jan Maas at Star Farm Studios, with extra drum engineering by Gregory Simons. It was combined by Mathlovsky at Home Of Lov, and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege. It’s set for launch on vinyl and digitally on October 3 through Consouling Sounds and Lay Naked Recordings. Place your preorder right here.
The band had this to say about its new full-length:
“We actually wished to embrace the experimental aspect of our music writing for this album. Mixing a number of subgenres of steel and digital music, actually amping up our industrial vibes and psychedelic tendencies.Holding the sludge steel as a base to construct upon, our amps actually went past our typical, already very loud, quantity. After two years of performing our earlier album reside, we felt we exceeded our earlier mastery of our devices and felt very assured invoking extra polyrhythms and daring sound decisions. Most bands as they get older collectively actually have a tendency to melt their sound, both as a industrial alternative or to maintain doing it reside, however we wished to transcend what was already there. Strengthening the assumption that loud music could make this world a greater place, whereas we combat for a spot within the solar. These tracks are supposed to be head rippers, listeners be warned!”
