Leela James has launched her new EP 2BHONEST by way of SheSangz Music/BMG.
The six-track providing, produced by Rex Rideout, was preceded by the singles “Proper On Time” and “Trustworthy.”
“This challenge is about freedom — the liberty to really feel, to interrupt down, to rebuild, and most significantly, to be sincere with your self,” says James. “We stay in a time the place picture usually outweighs fact. I needed to flip that on its head.”
2BHONEST opens with “The place U Are,” a longing plea to reconnect with a distant lover. “I wanna be the place you might be,” she sings. The remainder of the challenge finds James wrapped up in romance.
“So Nice” is a syrupy funk jam the place James shoots her shot at a possible accomplice: “For those who ain’t obtained no strings connected / Child, I can deal with that.”
Closing with the synth-soul banger “(My Love Ain’t) Straightforward,” James makes it clear that in the case of her coronary heart, meeting is required. “For those who actually assume you may have this / Child, you must know I’m not your common / No, no, no / Gotta put in that work / That’s for certain, certain certain,” she sings.
James rolled out 2BHONEST with the lead single, “Proper On Time,” which celebrated love and legacy. “I’m so excited to be 20 years within the recreation and that my music to be proper on time,” she informed Rated R&B.
She continued with “Trustworthy,” which she defined, “I simply felt like I needed to specific the facet of me that’s susceptible and delicate, whereas protecting it funky, edgy and unapologetically me.”
2BHONEST follows James’ 2023 album, Thought U Knew, which spawned the Billboard high 10 hit “Proper Again In It.”
