In a brand new interview with Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station, Sammy Hagar was requested if he has any regrets about his time because the lead singer of VAN HALEN. He mentioned (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Oh, hell no. Oh, no regrets by any means. I remorse that we broke up, simply to see what else we may have carried out. I might’ve beloved to have made one other report or two with [legendary VAN HALEN guitarist] Eddie [Van Halen] writing.

Eddie and I wrote some nice songs collectively, and I feel the perfect stuff was but to return; it may have been but to return, as a result of Eddie was actually reaching out on devices,” he continued.

“Final time I talked to Eddie earlier than he handed, I mentioned, ‘Man, what are you enjoying?’ He mentioned, ‘Oh, man, I’ve actually been enjoying a number of cello.’ And I am going, ‘Cello? Holy shit.’ [Laughs] ‘Play me one thing, dude. I am prepared to jot down a tune with you on cello.’

“As artists, Eddie and I had been actually able to doing a number of stuff that he could not do earlier than me as a result of the opposite man did not need keyboards,” Sammy added, apparently referring to VAN HALEN‘s unique singer David Lee Roth. “And after I walked within the room with Eddie, he confirmed me two guitar songs after I joined, on [the] ‘5150’ [album] — he confirmed me ‘Good Sufficient’ and he confirmed me ‘Summer time Nights’. These are two riffs he had. After which what did he do? He went and sat down on the piano and he began enjoying all these items. And I am going, ‘Whoa. What?’ He begins enjoying to riff to ‘Desires’. He is sitting there enjoying ‘Love Walks In’. He is simply enjoying all these items on keyboards, and I am going, ‘Whoa, I had no concept he was that good of a keyboard participant.’ So, he actually wished to broaden as a musician. To me, I feel that is what his dream would’ve been. And it was at all times held again by the report corporations and the folks round him. I feel we’d’ve broke out of that inside a 12 months and begin doing a little actually loopy stuff.

“Now, all of the hardcore VAN HALEN followers are on the market saying, ‘No, no. You’d’ve ruined it. We wish ‘Poundcake’.’ But it surely’s all good, man. It is all good.

“That is the one remorse I’ve,” Hagar concluded. “I remorse nothing about being in that band. It is the best factor that ever occurred to me. I’ll by no means attain that pinnacle once more in my musical profession, and I do not even attempt for it. It is, like, why even attempt? I am unable to do it. These occasions are gone and I am proud to have been there.”

Hagar changed Roth in VAN HALEN in 1985 and recorded 4 studio albums with the band — “5150”, “OU812”, “For Illegal Carnal Data” and “Stability” — all of which topped the U.S. chart.

Sammy, Eddie, Alex Van Halen (drums) and Michael Anthony (bass) final teamed up in 2004 for a U.S. summer time tour. In trade for participating within the tour, Anthony reportedly needed to conform to take a pay reduce and signal away his rights to the band identify and brand.

Hagar mended his relationship with Eddie Van Halen months previous to the legendary VAN HALEN guitarist’s October 2020 passing.

He advised an interviewer in 2012: “What occurred on that reunion tour in ’04 was a number of the most depressing, back-stabbing darkish crap I’ve ever been concerned with my entire life.”

In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, Eddie questioned an “embellished” portion of “Crimson: My Uncensored Life In Rock” that painted the guitarist as a “very indignant drunk” through the group’s 2004 reunion tour.

In November 2020, Eddie‘s son Wolfgang revealed that his father had contemplated a “kitchen-sink tour” that may have included Anthony, in addition to vocal turns from each Hagar and Roth. There was even discuss bringing again Gary Cherone, who sang with VAN HALEN on one poorly acquired album, 1998’s “Van Halen III”.
