Detroit natives Boldy James and Antt Beatz join for ‘Hommage’, a cinematic new challenge out now through EMPIRE.

As we speak, the acclaimed Detroit wordsmith connects with achieved producer Antt Beatz to launch ‘Hommage’, their new collaborative challenge, and Boldy’s fifth new album of 2025.

A fixture in Detroit’s underground for almost 20 years, Boldy James usually solid his personal path by way of the music business, collaborating with nationwide figures and linking up with East Coast behemoths like Westside Gunn and The Alchemist.
With Hommage, Boldy steeps himself within the sounds of his hometown, making an attempt his hand on the booming Detroit sound that has taken over rap music this decade.
He finds the right manufacturing companion in Antt Beatz, who has been a favourite for Detroit artists since his work with Workforce Eastside within the early 2010s, and has since crafted hits for artists like Lil Child, Tee Grizzley, 42 Dugg, and Icewear Vezzo.
With occasional help from co-producers like Helluva on “Tetris” and “Tremendous Mario”, Antt offers Boldy with a widescreen tackle the 313 sound, crafting instrumentals with creeping pianos, subsonic bass, and atmospheric synth pads, completely suited to nighttime drives and illicit actions.
Boldy makes use of the cinematic backdrop to raise his road narratives, including a visceral oomph that provides the album the brooding thrills of a Michael Mann movie.
On “Himothy McVeigh”, Boldy takes flight atop a repeating two-chord motif straight out of a spy film, taking photographs at social media gangsters (“F*ck all these verified socials / These n****s couldn’t see me with a pair of bifocals“), whereas latest single “Road Cred” additional beefs up his filmic bonafides with references to Steven Spielberg and “Motion Jackson”.
