There is a good likelihood you or somebody you realize has borrowed a line or two from 69 Love Songs, the beloved, three-volume album launched by The Magnetic Fields in 1999. Lyrics from frontman Stephin Merritt‘s usually comical and affecting opus to courting and romance have wound up in every little thing from movie and TV exhibits to like letters and marriage vows. Now on tour for the album’s twenty fifth anniversary, the band stopped by the Desk to share greater than a half-dozen songs from throughout the gathering.
Battling a head chilly, Merritt cradled a stuffed animal via the efficiency (a white cat you may spot sitting on the Desk in quite a lot of Tiny Desk units). “I do not truly know whose cat that is,” he informed the gang, as he crooned a number of fan favorites, together with “The Ebook of Love,” “I Do not Need to Get Over You” and “Come Again from San Francisco.”
The band, that includes the whole authentic lineup, carried out with out drums and an nearly completely acoustic set, except for Sam Davol’s electrical cello.
